I am a violin teacher in Evanston with 25 plus years of experience teaching kids and adults ages 3 and up in a studio connected to my home in south Evanston.

I use a modified Suzuki Method, which features positive reinforcement, strong technique, listening, and parent involvement.  I have a degree in violin performance from DePaul University and have training in both Suzuki and traditionaI  methods. I have trained with numerous Suzuki teachers, Mimi Zweig of Indiana University, and have done training in the Paul Rolland method. I previously taught at the Music Institute of Chicago for 8 years, and left to start my own studio. my studio has now been thriving for 25 plus years.

Lessons are taught at my home studio using a modified Suzuki Method  and other repertoire. Young children attend lessons with their parents, however, parents need no previous musical training. Lessons involve learning techniques through games and positive reinforcement. Younger children and beginners are given a strong technical foundation, which is a key to good violin playing!  More advanced students work on skills such as vibrato, shifting, and  vibrato.

Many of my students are involved with local school and training orchestras. Several are first violins in their section.

There are typically 2 recitals or more per year for students.  My main goal in teaching is to instill an appreciation and enjoyment of music in my students that will last a lifetime!

*Instruments - most of my students rent violins until they are in a full size.  There are several places in the area to rent and I’m happy to give you my recommendation.

Julie Irving Violin Studio is a great alternative to more expensive music schools in the area. Scholarships are available to qualifying qpplicants.
